Life on the farm at Hidden Villa Summer Camp includes exploring the wilderness, investigating the garden, and participating in a social justice curriculum for youth ages six through sixteen. At all ages, the program encourages youth to practice engaging their curiosity, thinking critically, and advocating for themselves and others. Staff working with the youngest campers are encouraged to model acceptance and self-expression through clothing choices that challenge gender stereotypes, and the camp is completely gender-inclusive and welcomes campers of all genders.

Most campers sleep under the stars in the fresh air, while the youngest overnight campers sleep in well-ventilated cabins that are disinfected between sessions, with each overnight camp having its own private camping area. Farm and Wilderness, Watershed Wanders, and Bay to Sea campers have a backpacking component in their programs, and those campers are asked to bring their own sleeping pads, while all other campers are provided a camp mattress that is cleaned and disinfected before and after each session. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free meal options are always available, and families of campers with food allergies or more specific food needs are directed to contact the camp office to see if the camp can accommodate the youth’s needs.

Hidden Villa’s educational programs have been inspiring a sense of wonder and promoting an ethic of caretaking in school children, teens, volunteers, and families for over 50 years. The mission of Hidden Villa’s programs is to promote an eagerness of learning about ourselves and others through a framework built on respect of differences and responsibility to make positive impacts on families, communities, and the world. Hidden Villa is an educational nonprofit that stretches over 1,600 acres of open space in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains and offers experiential education and responsible agriculture programs in a setting that promotes engagement, connection, and understanding.

Every year, 30,000 people participate in one of Hidden Villa’s programs and an additional 20,000 visitors come to explore the organic farm and gardens, greet the farm animals, and hike the trails. Hidden Villa welcomes school groups, summer campers, family gatherings, corporate volunteers, and anyone looking for an escape and a respite. Hidden Villa’s founders, Frank and Josephine Duveneck, offered their property as a gathering place for discussion, reflection, and the incubation of social reform in the 1920s, and Hidden Villa remains a place that values inclusion, diversity, understanding, and respect, with a place at the table for everyone where lively discussion, debate, and collaboration are encouraged. Hidden Villa’s staff of talented educators use a wide array of programs to reinforce values of a just and sustainable future.

Hidden Villa Summer Camp partners with Epicurean Group to provide healthy meals for residential campers.
